It was cold out there

A few weeks ago it seemed inconceivable that it would seem too cold for a run, but it sure came close to that on Saturday for my 16-mile workout. The temperature was in the middle 30s and it was breezy, making it seem to be below freezing.
I started out with a cotton long-sleeved shirt on over my technical long sleeved shirt, but after 3 miles had to take off the outer later. It was just getting too hot. Thereafter it was OK, even if it was a little chilly the rest of the way. The real problem was my hands. I had my middle-weight gloves, but my fingers got uncomfortably cold and stiff anyway.
The cold kind of made the work out seem like real work instead of recreation.
Maybe another reason it seemed like work was because I decided to see if I could run the whole thing at goal pace - or around 9 or 9:10 per mile. I wanted to achieve that goal while still walking 30 seconds between each mile. In the end, 10 of the 16 miles were at goal pace, so I didn't do so well in that regard. On the other hand, I averaged 9:18 for the whole run, which is pretty good for something that's supposed to be long and slow.
I did the run at English Landing Park, and during the time I was out there they held a timed 5k race. I happened to overhear the times for the top finishers in my age group, and had I run I would have won. Alas, I did not compete.
