This was a cold day, and there was the threat of rain. I wasn't sure I was going to get 9 miles in before being force inside, but I changed at work and drove straight to English Landing to get started as quickly as possible.
The schedule called for 9 miles with 3 of them at marathon pace, which for me means at least 9 min. per mile. Since I was running at the park where the terrain is flat, it didn't take long to loosen up and get my pace down. After a 9:38 opening mile, I was at marathon pace for the rest of the run. In fact, after mile three I averaged 8:14. Part of that was because I felt very good, and part of it was because I was racing against the weather.
Just as I finished the 9th mile, and with just 2 tenths of a mile to the car, the rain started. It was just a light rain when I climbed into the car, but as I drove off it started to pour. The rain and running gods had given me just enough time to finish.
Overall, I did 9.2 miles in 1:18:35. which is an 8:33 pace. It'd be cool if I could sustain that for 26 miles, but I doubt it.
