It was nice this morning, temperaturewise, but it was going to be hot, so I was under way with my long run of the week by 5:30 a.m. After a rest day on Friday, my legs felt good. The schedule called for 9 miles, but I figured I'd probably go 10 if it didn't get too hot too fast.
I changed the route a little bit and ran on the Southern Platte Pass trail - the trail next to 64th St. - for 8 of the 10 miles. What makes this possible is the construction of a trail extension that gets walkers, runners and bikers past the I-29 interchange at 64th St. and I-29. You still have to cross the streets, but the trail gets you off the crowded roads otherwise.
I never intended to generate any speed on this run, and a look at my splits shows I didn't. I did accomplish a negative split - I was faster in the second 5 miles than in the first, but overall I averaged 9:21 per mile for the 10.2 total.
The temperature really didn't move much during the run, staying about 70 the whole time. But the humidity was really high and I was drenched by the time I finished. Checking the weather conditions on my phone, I found that the humidity when I finished was 87 percent.
My weekly mileage was 31.2 miles.
