Here we are staring at another week of record-setting hot weather, which means another week of getting up early to beat the heat. After today, temperatures are expected to continue to climb each day, topping out at 106 on Saturday. All you can do is take it one day at a time and not overdo it.
It was 76 degrees this morning at 5:15, which isn't bad by itself. Getting started, it felt like I was fighting through an invisible atmospheric barrier, and I guess I was, given the high humidity. On top of that, today's schedule called for a hilly course. This was looking like a tough run.
I slogged through the first mile at 10:45, and even the second was pretty slow at 9:49. After that, though, I seemed to wake up a bit. Even though I was running a route that featured a lot of hills, my pace improved to right arout 9:00 per mile for the rest of the way. My final average pace for the 6.8 miles was 9:20.
And yeah, I was soaked at the end.
