End of week 1

It couldn't have been much worse, weatherwise, for the first week of marathon training. Every day was at or over 100 degrees. I started with two runs on Monday, 4 miles in the morning and 3 in the evening, then ran in the morning the rest of the week to beat the heat.
Today was no exception. It would have been nice to sleep in, at least to 6 a.m., but that would have meant running too many miles under the ever-hotter sun. I was up at 5 and under way by 5:25. The schedule called for 9 miles.
Rather than drive anywhere I just decided to run from the house. That way I wouldn't waste 15 min. of the relatively mild early morning weather commuting to my running venue. I took water along, which I don't normally do for workouts under 10 miles, and set an easy pace.
I opened with a 10:44 first mile, then gradually improved my pace to 8:52 in mile 8. The temp was 76 at the start, and might have cooled off a degree or two later in the run. At the end, though, it was back up to 78.
I ended up with 9.2 miles in 1:27:03, which is a 9:27 pace. Total miles for the week were 30.3.
