Big tests all around

This is a pretty big weekend for our half marathoners in training, and for at least one marathoner in training.
For the novice half marathoners the mileage for Saturday jumps to 8 after being at 6 last week. I know 8 can seem like quite a leap over 6 - it's just something about the number. No doubt about it, it's a pretty big number.
The key to knocking off all those miles is to just take it one mile at a time. Walk between each mile. Don't worry much about your pace.
The great thing is that if you can run 8, then 6 is easy and 10 is well within reach. If you can do 10, you can definitely do a half marathon. You are SO close! Keep it going!

Personally, I've got a marathon coming up on March 15. My training is all out of whack from what I'm used to. Because of a tendon injury, I cut way back one week, and then did no running at all for 9 straight days. I'm running again, but I've done no speed work, and nothing outdoors since the middle of January. Everything's been on the treadmill for its soft surface. I'm seeing a physical therapist to encourage healing.
Could I run a marathon? I tend to think "no" at this point. I may find out tomorrow, because the schedule calls for 20 miles.

Note that I have some new features on the blog. There's a place where you can sign up as a "follower" of the blog. So far I only have one: me. Pitiful. There are also sports quotes and fitness tips that are supposed to change every day. Plus, you can click on the Google ad. If enough people do it, I get a check from Google. Compelling stuff, huh?
