Luck: I guess that's what Saturday was all about.
I have a sore tendon in my right foot; sore enough to have taken me out of training completely for 10 days, and sore enough that I'm in physical therapy. I've been running very carefully for the last week and a half.
Saturday my schedule called for a 20-mile run. Despite all the TLC, I had no confidence that my foot could withstand the full workout, and I just hoped to make it to around 15. I planned things so I'd never be on hard or hilly surfaces, kept my pace conversational, stopped briefly about every three miles, stretched several times, and ran all 20 miles without the slightest twinge. I averaged 9:32 per mile, which puts me right where I was at this point last fall before my last marathon, which was a big success.
Saturday's run significantly improves the outlook for Little Rock in March. I think I will maintain my "just finish" plan for now, but at least now I feel like I actually CAN finish.

If you've been following my team of first-time half marathoners, you're probably wondering how they're doing. Me, too. Maybe we can get that report in the next couple of days.
