Rest helps

That first run after a day off is always a nice one. Tonight I had a 10-mile goal-pace run, and I was able to do it on rested legs since yesterday was a day off.

In this particular case, the schedule called for 7 of my 10 miles to be run at the pace I intended to run my marathon at. For training purposes, I think of my marathon pace as 9 min. per mile.

So, after warming up with a 9:44 and a 9:17, I did 7 miles at between 8:54 and 8:19. My last mile actually qualified for marathon pace, since it was 9:07 which, if you run at that pace for 26.2 miles, will get you in at exactly 4 hours.

Overall, I did 10.3 miles in 1:31:02, which is an 8:51 pace.
