Since we'll be out of town on Saturday I did my long run this morning. It turned out to be a great decision, since the weather was perfect: low 60s, slight breeze, low humidity.
I was in no hurry and just wanted to finish the run feeling good, so I went out slowly, recording a 10:44 first mile and 10:16 second. By mile 6 I was down to marathon pace, even though I was walking 40 seconds between each mile. I held marathon pace the rest of the way. I'd like to think I can do that on race day, but holding marathon pace for 8 miles is a lot easier than doing it for over 20. Its doable, though, and I've done it, so it can be done again.
Overall, I did 14.2 miles in 2:12:15, which is a 9:18 pace.
