The week turned hot, but I still made it out for runs Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I varied the lengths of the runs, but not the intensity: they were all easy.
I got out kind of early for today's run: I was underway by 6:45. The temperature was in the high 70s and would be over 80, and humid, before I was done. I wanted to do at least 8 miles to bring my weekly total to 25 leading into a taper week for the Hospital Hill half marathon. After I got going I decided that with proper management I could do 10, which would be ideal for a final long run before the race. I kept the pace relatively slow and walked 40 seconds after each mile. I also stopped after miles 3 and 6 for cold water.
I ended up with 10.2 miles in 1:35:35, which is a 9:22 pace, and managed not to get overheated or under hydrated. Here's hoping it's 10 or 15 degrees cooler on race day.
