Long bike ride

Four of us rode in the Summer Breeze organized bike ride Sunday morning, leaving from Longview Community College at 7 a.m. We chose the 45-mile route (rather than 70 or 100 miles), which went around the north side of the lake, through Grandview, south to Peculiar and then back to the lake. We averaged 13.6 mph for the whole ride. About the only time we pushed the pace was the last 10 miles or so. Mile 44, for instance, averaged out at 21.5 mph, while the other faster miles were in the 18 mph range.
The ride served as a good measure of our readiness for the Hilly Hundred ride several of us are planning to participate in in October. That one features 100 miles over two days in the hills of Indiana. Personally, I came away from this ride convinced I could do the Hilly Hundred.
Rob, Bill, Mitchell and Mike just before the ride started.
