Post op, week 1

A week ago today I was in surgery having an inguinal hernia repaired. The hernia definitely had to be repaired, but there was no medical reason to have it done immediately. I didn't consider waiting to be an option for me, though, because I believed the hernia was causing me persistent groin pain, which prevented me from running or even walking for exercise.  I wanted to be able to do both as soon as possible.
Now, one week since the operation, I'm fairly confident the hernia has been repaired, but I'll have to take a wait-and-see stance on the groin pain issue. The doctor tells me I cannot exert myself physically for 3 to 4 weeks. He wants to be sure the mesh he used to repair the hernia will properly adhere to the tissue in my abdomen. I'm good with that.

Most of my general discomfort and pain had subsided by Friday, leaving me with pain and discomfort specific to the laproscopy entry sites, and the area where the 6x6 mesh was secured with titanium tacks. Most days now I am a little sore in the first part of the morning, and improve throughout the day. I originally planned to return to work on the Thursday after my surgery, but when Thursday came I knew I couldn't do it. It was the same on Friday. I did get 8 hours of work in from home during the second half of last week.
I'd like to say that I haven't had the slightest hint of groin pain since the operation, but that's not true. On Saturday I was sore in the groin right where my pelvis meets the groin. I was very disappointed until I read the surgeon's report, which indicated the exact spot of the pain was where the mesh was tacked to the pelvis. I decided it made sense that it would be sore there.
By Sunday, that pain was gone, but now I was very tender to the touch in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen. Again, that was the location of the mesh (at least as I understand it). I just quit touching it much. The tenderness was gone by Monday.
Now, on Tuesday, I again have some minor pain in my groin. This comes after mostly laying around Sunday and Monday, so I can't blame the pain on any kind of exertion. Maybe it can be blamed on laying around too much.
It's way too early to get excited, though. The doctor was pretty confident the surgery would take care of the groin pain, and I'm going with that at least until my followup visit with him next week.
