Wednesday was supposed to be a cross training day, and those are the days I head to the gym for a little weight lifting.
But Wednesday was an opportunity: It was sunny and warm; well, 60, which is about perfect for a run. So, after lifting I took off on an easy 4-miler on the trail that runs on either side of Tom Watson Parkway. It took about 1.5 miles to run through the leg exercises I'd done in the gym, but after that it was all fun. The overall pace was 8:52 per mile.
About half our days this spring have been cold and/or rainy, so when the weather is nice I always try to use it, even if it messes with the schedule a little. Today's weather is supposed to be a lot like Wednesday, perhaps a little warmer, so it should be nice for my 8-mile run after work.
My review of Once a Runner (John L. Parker, Jr.), which appeared here a few days ago, will run in The Kansas City Star on Friday on the cover of the FYI section. I don't get many bylines in my line of work, so I'm pleased by this. It should be on line at www.kansascity.com that same day.
