I've had two good speed workouts this week.
On Tuesday I did 6.5 miles of quarter-mile intervals: a quarter at 9:20, then a quarter at 8:20. You burn a lot of calories that way, and it's excellent speed training. Wednesday I had a 5 mile run scheduled, so I decided to do a different type of speed run. I just took off and, after a relatively slow 9:11 opening mile, ran at about 80 or 85 percent of max the rest of the way. My splits were 8:22, 8:15, 7:51 and 7:48.
That sets up what should be a slow 13 miler Friday. No sense in inviting some kind of over-training injury at this point. I'll just take it easy.

I'm looking forward to hearing this weekend how the half-marathoners are doing. Might even get a short run in with at least one of them.
