One of my better decisions this year: I chose to do my run early Saturday morning rather than wait until Sunday. When I got out on the streets it was still 25 with a light wind. That light wind resulted in a wind chill of 18, but that was a problem only on the way out. My route was predominantly north/south, so once I made the turn it wasn't too bad.
By the time I was into my last 4 miles or so, the temp was falling and the wind was picking up, and by the afternoon it was mid teens. By then we were most of the way to Carroll and the thermometer in the car said it was 6 degrees outside. That's supposed to be the high in KC Sunday.
Anyway, I got my first really long run in while the weather was still reasonable. I wore two layers of pants and five layers of shirts, heavy gloves and a head covering that also covered my neck. It was my first run wearing a pair of Yak Trax. These things work very well on ice and packed snow, and are not uncomfortable at all. If you run outside this time of year, you should give them a try.
I did 18 miles in about 2:53, and now I get to enjoy a low mileage week that will end with a 12 mile run this coming weekend.
