19 days post op report

Thursday's visit with the doctor was more of a mental checkup than a physical one. The only place I still hurt was  in my left groin, the exact same pain as I had before surgery. In fact, I had been hurting for two days leading up to the. visit, and I was a bit bummed out over the prospect that while my hernia might be fixed, it wasn't going to change the fact that I was still going to have groin pain.
I mentioned the pain to the nurse before the doctor came in, and she assured me that the pain I was experiencing was normal and expected, and that I should not worry about it.
While she and I were visiting, the doctor came in, and I repeated my concerns. He said the same thing: It was expected and would fade over the next month or so. If it's still a problem in a couple months, I'm to come back. He didn't come right out a promise I'd have no pain, but it seemed clear to me he expected the pain to go away.
Meanwhile, the doctor said he wanted me to maintain my life of leisure through the end of the month. Nothing physically exerting; no heavy lifting; no bike riding. "No biking" meant I had to notify my buddies I wasn't coming along on our planned 50-miler on Sept. 30.
The good news is I got the OK to walk - not power walk, but walk. Kay and I walked about 1.25 miles at a careful pace on Friday, and today I walked about 4 miles at about the same pace. Either one of those walks probably would have given me some pretty serious groin pain before the surgery, but there was no pain this time. As a result, my mental state is in good shape.
