T minus 5 days

Wednesday before the race. I would love to be out running even a slow 5 k, but my injured groin really hasn't responded well enough yet to do that. I would like to get up some morning this week and feel absolutely no pain and stiffness. Today I feel about like I did Tuesday, so I think my chances to finish the Des Moines Marathon are still about 15 percent. I am better than I was a week ago, though. I don't take any anti-inflammatory medicine during the day, and as the day goes on I loosen up and feel better. So, by mid afternoon I feel almost 100 percent. Of course, on race day I can't wait around that long to get loose, and I'll be running, not sitting around all day.

I'm not terribly worried about the whole situation. No one wants to train for four months, reach their conditioning peak, and not run, but I will drop out if I have to. If I do it would be my first DNF, and they don't make medals for that. They make beers.
