Outracing the storm

Since I knew it was going to be cool after work I decided not to run in the morning and sleep in. I still got up at 5:40 and went to the gym for a short weight lifting session.

It got up to 80 during the day, but by the time I got home it was in the low 60s, windy and threatening rain. I had a feeling I needed to hurry or I'd get rained out.

It almost happened. At about the 2.5 mile mark the first drops fell, and before I hit 3 I was in a light to moderate rainfall. I considered finding shelter and calling the house for a lift back home, but pressed on anyway. By the time I was at 4.5 miles the rain had stopped. It still looked like it could cut loose at any moment, but it held off until I got done.

The run was supposed to be 7 miles with 5 at marathon pace (for me that's 9 min. per mile). One thing the weather did was make me hurry, and my 5 marathon pace miles were quicker than they needed to be: I averaged around 8:20 for those miles, with the fastest being 8:09.

I finished with 7.1 miles in 1:01:27, which is an 8:40 pace.
