Now that I think about it, this has to be considered a major step forward.
Three miles, no stopping and no walking. Then two miles, no stopping no walking. I haven't done that for several weeks.
I did it with absolutely no pain or discomfort whatsoever. I didn't begin the day with the intention of running at all, but it was another superb day with the high in the upper 40s, lots of sun and a 9 mph breeze. I went out announcing that I planned to do whatever I thought I could do safely. I was prepared to walk, if that's what it came to.
But it didn't. I started out with a slow-paced run, felt great, and just kept going. I expected some tightness or pain anytime after 2 miles, but it never came. For good measure, after mile 3 I went off the clock for a brief time to stretch, and then I took off on a two mile run.
I could have gone longer, too, but truthfully I was a bit gassed. I've been working out on the eliptical machines regularly, but I'm not in running shape at all. That was clear today.
No matter. I did 5 miles and averaged 9:43. That was a little fast for my conditioning, so I wore myself out. Nothing like being a mere shadow of one's former self (I ran my last marathon just two and a half months ago). I'm just happy to be able to run again.
Cheers.
