Yesterday I had a great workout as Bill B. and I hiked the Meadow Lake trail. The hike starts at about 10,000 feet and ended at 12,000 feet. This was a lot of fun and a lot of work. I had my Garmin GPS with me and used it to keep track of our elevation as we worked our way up the side of the mountain. the first two thirds of the 3.4 mile climb was on a dirt and rock trail through dense pine forrest. the climb was steady but not severe most of the time. We would stop and rest every 10 min. or so. Once we got over 11,000 feet, we had to rest after every 50 feet of climb because we'd be winded, our legs screaming and our heart rates way up. I checked mine at one point and it was about 150. The last 500 feet were about as verticle as you'd ever want without real climbing gear. At several points we were climbing up the rocks, one hand and one foot at a time. At several points I wimped out and opted for easier routes if they could be found. Along the way we came upon a multi-level waterfall, and at the top we were treated to a view of the feeder lake with mountain peaks rising from three sides. It was cold and windy way up there, so we didn't waste a lot of time there. The climb took about three and a half hours, and thereturn two and a half. Great fun. Pictures to come. s
