Starting to peak

Despite all the problems I've had the last 6 weeks with my foot, things are starting to come together at just the right time. The foot seems healed. I don't trust it 100 percent, but it hasn't given me any trouble for over two weeks. And, I feel as though my conditioning is right on target for the mid-March Little Rock Marathon.

Last night I had a 7 mile tempo run scheduled, and since the weather was mild I opted for a street run rather than the treadmill. I felt very good, very strong. It's a real confidence builder, because I hate going into a race without the knowledge that I've done everything possible to assure success. If you're not ready, a marathon can be very painful.

Anyway, I started moderately fast - just below oxygen debt - on my sharply uphill climb out of the neighborhood, and kept the pace at that level for almost 3 miles. Then I ran a speedy final 4.5 miles and finished with an 8:32 pace. The totals were 7.46 miles in 63:41 min.

I'm aiming for a my final 20-mile run this weekend, and then I taper to the race.
