This was supposed to be a 6 or 7 mile speed workout, but I swapped in my Wednesday 10-mile tempo run instead. I figured that since Wednesday is supposed to be hot, running in the evening would be uncomfortable; and since I have physical therapy at 8 that morning, it would be tough to run early. Today was a holiday, and cool, and I had all the time in the world. A 10-mile run fit in nicely. I can do 6 or 7 in the heat on Wednesday.
It was a good choice. The temperature was in the low 60s. Despite having run 21 Saturday, I felt pretty loose, but took it real easy with a 10:21 opening mile. The schedule called for 10 miles at planned marathon pace, which for me is 9:15. I ran all the rest of the miles under 9, and 6 of them in the 8:20s. My average was 8:44.
Best news yet: I left my knee brace in the car and had no problems. I've felt for a long time that I didn't need it anymore, but I hung onto it any way like a security blanket. I'll see less of it in the weeks to come, but will probably still wear it during speed work.
