March 12, 2007
I was eating breakfast this morning - and less than 90 minutes from leaving for work - when I was reminded of a meeting I had tonight. Drat! If I'd remembered that earlier, I could have gotten up and gone for an early morning run.
But wait. Who's to say I couldn't do that anyway? After all, I'm only scheduled for three miles, which would take less than 30 minutes. I hurried off to change into some running clothes and jumped out the door at 7:40 a.m. Who's there to meet me but four full grown deer standing in the middle of the cul-de-sac in broad daylight. They stood there; I stood there. We could have pondered each other from 50 feet for several minutes, but I was in a hurry, so I took of straight for them. They scattered, naturally, and I did my three miles at a pace that was much too fast for a "recovery run."
But at least now it's done and I don't have to think about how to make those miles up the rest of the week.
