July 4, 2009

Distance: 11.51 miles
Time: 1:41:35
Average: 8:49
Run type: Long tempo
Location: English Landing and the levy trail
Weather: 73. Humid. A little rain.
Aches: Left foot, top and sides. My shoes are worn out.
Injuries: None
Observations: 1) The smell of grease reheating (there's a festival in the park).
2) Funnel cake stand and the lady who had worked and dined there too long.
3) The pavement at 2 inches. I did a dive-and-roll on the side of the road after I caught my left foot in the wide loop of the shoestrings on my right shoe. Somehow my double-tied shoestring had come lose. No injuries. I guess my observation is the pavement looks better from 6 feet away.
4) 6 or 7 min. of steady rain between miles 3 and 4.
Thoughts: 1) Remember, it's supposed to be a long, slow run. Do not be concerned about time. Time will take care of itself. It did.
2) Finished my run where the Fourth of July Parade was going to finish. I was ahead of the parade, but the street was lined with waiting people, just like a marathon finishing chute. I have to admit I pretended for a few seconds like they were there to watch me.
Session comments: I felt good because I'd had two days of rest. It was a 35-mile week.

Glad your dive and roll left you unharmed! Happy Fourth to everyone in KC.
